We wanted to put together a list of the best whisky bars in Melbourne. So we did some exploring and wandered across some epic bars where you can enjoy your next glass.

Topping the list is Whisky and Alement on Russell street. There ever-changing menu of over 1000 whiskies features everything from the classics to independent bottlings, right through to some of the rarest whiskies in the world. Take a turn down the alley way and you will come across this gem! Beneath Driver Lane offers an extensive list of whiskies ranging from Japanese, Asian, Irish and Australian heritage. Once you finish your quota of whisky, you can enjoy their famous cocktails, including martinis that are made with liquid nitrogen. If you are feeling peckish they also serve delicious, honest French bar food served through to 3am, 7 days a week.

One of our favourites, Biolermaker House is a blues filled temple devoted to malt whisky, craft beer and delicious cocktails. With over 900 whiskies and an ever rotating tap list, this is a 'must do' for Melbourne whisky lovers. There dinner menu is designed with boozing in mind and includes a custom built cheese and charcuterie fridge. Oh, did we mention the great music?

The Elysian Whisky Bar is a small and cosy whisky and cocktail bar located on the lower end of Brunswick Street in Fitzroy. About 350 bottles of rare and interesting whiskies on the shelves, with a focus on independent bottlings from around the world. Playing jazz and old classics most nights, drop by to enjoy a relaxing night with some great drinks. If whisky is not your drink of choice, fear not, they also offer some great seasonal fruits and classic cocktails, wines, and a small rotating list of beers.
Looking for something a little out of the ordinary? This speakeasy bar is not your average watering hole. The Woods of Windsor has over 80 whiskies to choose from, an extensive cocktail list and a unique atmosphere to match. The Woods provides the perfect spot to pull up a stool and indulge in some damn fine whisky.

Looking for the perfect whisky experience? 1806 provides a whisky menu containing over 300 different offerings from around the globe. The team at 1806 offer an experience like no other as you are taken on a journey through the world of whisky ($60 per head, suitable for tables of 2 or more). What’s included: Whisky Cocktail on arrival. Interactive tasting session of 4 whiskies run by resident whisky experts. Selection of seasonal canapés matched to each Whisky. If your a whisky head, this might be right up your alley.

Not just a pretty building, this cocktail and whisky bar offers an extensive range of the finest whiskies. If you are looking for some whisky education there are master-classes and tastings available. Whether you are just commencing your journey through the single malt whisky world, or are armed with plenty of knowledge already, the staff at Kilburn can take you on a guided tour through the ways of the whisky world.

Consider yourself a whisky scholar? Buck Mulligans is a specialty Irish whisky bar and bookshop. Drop in and browse the selection of books while enjoying a glass of your favourite whisky. Buck's aims to have Melbourne's largest selection of Irish whiskey. They also aim to serve 'the best of the rest', with whiskies and bourbons from Scotland, Japan, Tasmania and the USA. A sure bet for your next stiff drink.
